About Me

Hello! I'm Ms. Barkoo, your teacher librarian. With over 13 years of teaching experience and a passion for fostering a love of reading, technology, and innovation, I strive to make the library a welcoming space for all students. My goal is to inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through books, STEM activities, and engaging lessons.

What We're Learning 

K-2 Students  

  • Author & Illustrator Studies - exploring how stories come to life through words and illustrations

  • Story Elements - Identifying characters, setting, problem, and solution in stories 

  • Opinion Writing - Expressing thoughts on books and making connections to personal experiences

  • Storybook STEM - Hands-on STEM activities inspired by read-alouds, blending literacy and problem solving skills

3-5 Students  

  • Genre Studies - Exploring different types of literature, from fantasy to historical fiction 

  • Author & Illustrator Studies - Learning about the creative minds behind favorite books 

  • Narrative & Informational Writing - Crafting stories, reports, and research based writing 

  • Research Skills - Using credible sources to find and organize information 

  • Technology & Creativity - Designing nonfiction books, creating innovative designs, and making engaging multimedia presentations

Library & STEM Highlights

 Rainy Day Engineering

Our K-1 students put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test in our rain-themed library unit! After reading stories about rainy weather and animal habitats, students worked together to build sturdy shelters using blocks. Their challenge? Design a structure strong enough to protect the animals from the rain! Through teamwork and hands-on exploration, they learned about structure, stability, and the importance of shelter in nature. Check out their amazing creations!
